Samos town ranked 3rd in ‘Best European Destinations’ (photos)

Europe has many undiscovered gems for travelers. One of these was ‘unearthed’ by ‘Best European Destinations’ and it was found on the island of Samos. It is a small town called Kokkari and the site ranked it 3rd in its list revealing the long history of Samos, including the birthplace of the father of mathematics Pythagoras, astronomer Aristarchus and philosopher Epicurus. Home of goddess Hera, Samos hosted the father of history Herodotus and famous fabler Aesop. Samos is a place of lush vegetation and is surrounded by light and colour. Kokkari is located 10km northwest of Samos town and has a population of just over 1,000 people. the town was built at the turn of the 19th Century and tradition says it took its name from the cultivation of a small onion called ‘Kokkari’. The main source of income for the locals is tourism, with its well preserved houses being one of its major tourist attractions.
